Here has been recreated the  world of the tramp printer as it was in the handset days. The tramp printers of the 1890s. Never before has so much lore of the old-time printer-on-the-move been brought together in one volume. Saga of the early west you have never read before! A rollicking recital of rowdy reminiscence! Details the life on the road in its most luxuriant heyday, bringing back memories of: Peter B. Lee, king of the Tramp Printers; Colonel Ike Busby, aristocrat of the nomads; "Muskogee Red", "Kokomo" Phillips, "One Eye" George Machette, "Thin Space" Jones, "Circus" Baldwin, "Dirty Shirt" Smith, "Hi-Ass" Jones, "gig" Martin, T. Jeff McGovern, "Dixie" Dunbar and "Kid Glove" Willie. Oh, the places they went and the the things they saw!  This book is a must for anyone interested in the history of printing and those itinerant printers who lived adventures that others could only envy.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Born in Paradise, Missouri in a sod house on a site since covered by the water in the Trimble Wildlife Preserve, John Edward Hicks went to school in Excelsior Springs and Kansas City. For twenty-six years Mr. Hicks worked at the Kansas City Star. He was an avid reader and his thirst for knowledge was unquenchable. He was in love with the great events of the old west. Mr. Hicks passed away in December, 1971. Recently discovered additional manuscripts are being published in his memory
